Support the FreeBee Market
Summary: Ecological Landscaping & Tree Planting
Description
Boxborough FreeBee Network & Market was formed in the wake of the pandemic and a large local apartment fire. These experiences emphasized the importance and power of a central, volunteer-driven team to connect neighbors to share access to food, resources, and services.
FreeBee Market began simply in 2021, a place where excess foods could be shared with everyone who came, with a hope that some of the stigma of need could be removed. The market grew beyond food into a few other items, always with sustainability in mind, nothing to be thrown away. Individual volunteers took responsibility for sharing crafts, birthday and Halloween décor, flowers and plants and books. Free Bee returns in 2022, with a tighter schedule and renewed focus specifically on fresh foods, meat, and plants.
Every few weeks in the spring, summer and fall, FreeBee Market will offer foods gleaned from local markets and neighbors (particularly produce) on the lawn of the UCC Boxborough church. Beyond food, we hope friends and neighbors will gather to connect and share information, resources, and more. Look for community groups such as the Boxborough Minutemen and Boxborough Sustainability team. The market will continue to share plants, flowers, and crafts, and possibly books as well.
Dates for this 2022 season are Saturdays:
Aug 20, Sept 10 and October 15: 10:30 AM - 12:00 PM.
On every other Saturday from 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM, the FreeBee Market will offer a small-scale, self-serve 'pop-up' table of miscellaneous food items. Drop by for some fresh garden produce, and/or to share any extras of what you've been growing!
